Selway Joyce provided Quantity Surveying services in support of repair works to the Cathedral’s historic organ. The project focused on the careful restoration of an important heritage asset, requiring a sensitive approach to cost planning and project management. Working within a live and operational cathedral environment, our role supported the delivery of specialist repair works while helping to protect the character and significance of the building.

The project at St Nicholas Church involved the construction of a fully accessible rear extension to improve access and functionality. Enhancements were made to the existing entrances and exits to meet modern accessibility standards while respecting the historical character of the building.
The church, originally built in 1200, is located on a raised site next to a 16th-century farmhouse in West Worldham. The extension was designed to complement the historic fabric of the church while enabling it to better serve its congregation and visitors.

The project involved the full internal and external refurbishment and restoration of the church building. Works included the installation of flues and rooflights, as well as the complete replacement and upgrade of mechanical and electrical services.
The church remained adjacent to occupied properties, requiring careful coordination and strict health and safety measures to ensure minimal disruption and protect staff and the public. The completed works improved the church’s functionality, allowing it to better serve its congregation and host a broader range of community activities.

We provided Quantity Surveying and Project Management services from early engagement through to project completion and final accounting. The role included supporting design development, contract negotiation, and delivering quantity surveying services to both the architect and the client. The project was funded by the Local Housing Fund (LHF).

This project involved the reconstruction of a fire-damaged 14th-century church, carried out in line with strict conservation requirements.

The works also included the construction of a new extension to the north side of the existing building. Quantity surveying services were provided from the point of tender return through to completion, including cost control during construction and final accounting.

The project involved the replacement of internal lighting, stonework repair, carpentry restoration, and external fabric repairs to the Cathedral. The work was carried out in multiple phases to allow continued operation of the site during construction. Quantity Surveying services included developing and managing phase-by-phase budgets, preparing and negotiating contracts, reporting regularly to the client team, assessing interim valuations, and managing the final account process.
