Full quantity surveying and project management services for the extensive refurbishment of a historic library building, carried out from project inception through to final account.

Due to the confidentiality and sensitivity of the client, full project details cannot be disclosed. However, the scope encompassed significant conservation and alteration works, alongside extensive upgrades to the mechanical and electrical services throughout the building.

This project formed part of a wider programme of historic building works delivered for the Royal Household, one of eleven successfully completed commissions. Each project demanded the highest standards of workmanship, discretion, and conservation expertise, respecting the heritage and operational requirements of these nationally significant sites.

Quantity surveying and project management services for the restoration and refurbishment of key areas within Waddesdon Manor, including the Library, Archive and Study Centre, and the Reading Room.

Waddesdon Manor, a Grade I listed house, was constructed between 1874 and 1889 in a neo-Renaissance style, drawing inspiration from the architectural features of several French châteaux. The restoration works required meticulous attention to the original fabric and detailing to preserve the building’s distinctive historic character.

We supported the client through the tender process, overseeing the selection and appointment of specialist contractors with the requisite expertise in heritage conservation. Throughout the construction phase, particular care was taken to protect and maintain the Manor’s ornate interiors and decorative elements, ensuring that all works remained true to the original architectural vision.

We were appointed to deliver the restoration and adaptation of the Grade II* listed house at Spetchley Park. The project included the careful repair of the historic fabric and the removal of 1960s partitioning on the upper floors to reinstate the building’s original proportions. Modern services were integrated throughout, supporting contemporary living while preserving the heritage of the house. Interiors were reconfigured with sensitivity to the architectural language of the building, balancing its historic character with the practical requirements of a 21st-century home.

Chettle House is a Grade I listed manor, built in the early 18th century and a rare example of architecture from the period. During the mid-20th century, the house was subdivided into apartments, significantly altering its original form. SelwayJoyce supported the full restoration of the building, returning it to use as a single private residence. The project involved careful attention to historic detail and sensitivity to the building’s original structure.

In recognition of the quality of the work, the project was awarded the Georgian Group Award in 2019 for the restoration of a Georgian country house.

Phased development of the Ropley Engineering Works, funded by the Heritage Lottery and Mid Hants Railway.

The works focused on the enhancement of the railway’s operational facilities, including the extension of the locomotive workshop and the creation of an improved carriage workshop. These upgrades were designed to support the restoration and maintenance of the Watercress Line’s historic fleet of steam engines, coaches, and wagons. Throughout the project, careful consideration was given to maintaining the heritage significance of the site while improving its capabilities for future preservation work.

Quantity surveying and project management services for the conservation and restoration of a historic lodge house and its associated gates, commissioned to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Jubilee.

The works included the careful replacement of damaged stonework, restoration of decorative ironwork, and full refurbishment of the ornate gates. Specialist gilding techniques were employed to restore original detailing, preserving the craftsmanship and historic character of the structures. All interventions were carried out with sensitivity to the historic significance of the site, ensuring that both the lodge and gates were conserved to a standard befitting their commemorative purpose.

Funded by the Heritage Lottery, this project involved the restoration of the Edwardian pumping station at Twyford Waterworks. Originally built in 1904, the facility once served Winchester and its surrounding district. The works included the preservation of original steam equipment, structural restoration, internal redecoration, and construction of a new workshop to support ongoing maintenance. Selway Joyce played a central role in ensuring the authenticity of the work, with heritage specialists replicating intricate architectural details. The station has now returned to limited steam operation and is maintained by Trust volunteers.

We provided quantity surveying and project management services for the conversion and restoration of the disused Gosport Railway Station, a Grade II* listed structure.

The project involved the sensitive adaptation of the derelict shell to create multiple residential units offering sheltered housing accommodation. The works required a careful balance between the preservation of the building’s significant architectural and historic features and the integration of modern living standards.

External works were also undertaken across the wider site, enhancing accessibility and ensuring the development complemented the heritage setting. Our involvement ensured that the restoration maintained the building’s character while delivering a sustainable and functional future for the historic station.
