The refurbishment and modernisation of a 1920s community project, transforming certain facilities into 260 residential retirement units. We provided full Quantity Surveying services, covering both pre- and post-contract control, right through to final accounts.

Set within 225 acres of picturesque Surrey woodland, Whiteley Village was originally designed in the Arts and Crafts style, a key architectural movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Founded in 1907 by philanthropist and entrepreneur William Whiteley, the village’s buildings were part of his vision to provide worker housing and are now Grade II listed.

Over the last decade, the village has been redeveloped and extended into a retirement facility. Selway Joyce supported the project as Quantity Surveyors from the outset, and also took on the role of Project Managers for the latter two phases, ensuring the successful delivery of the development.

The construction of a new internal and external play facility with amenity accommodation in the heart of Southampton, situated in an urban environment. The project included the regrading of land to create new play areas, alongside soft and hard landscaping to enhance the site. Our role covered the full spectrum of Quantity Surveying services, from pre-contract cost planning and contract preparation, through to the agreement of the final account, ensuring the project was completed within budget and to the required quality standards.

We were engaged by Winchester City Council to deliver full Quantity Surveying services, contract development, and employers' agent support for a 77-unit residential development on a challenging greenfield site with steep slopes. The project included 63 mixed-tenure flats and 14 houses, divided into two distinct sections at the top and bottom of the valley, each with its own unique design identity.

Our role involved snagging from inception through to completion, ensuring that the project met all client requirements. We worked closely with the Council to understand their needs and successfully sourced skilled candidates for the project.

The development is well integrated into its urban surroundings, complementing the broader area.

This project marks another chapter in our long-standing relationship with Winchester City Council, with Selway Joyce being awarded this placement on their framework.

The refurbishment of a Quaker Meeting House, including the demolition of a residential block to the rear and redevelopment of the site to provide new meeting rooms and spaces for wider community use. Selway Joyce developed a series of costed options for the client, ranging from planned maintenance to a full refurbishment and new build scheme, supporting informed decision-making throughout the planning process.

Partial demolition and subsequent reconstruction of the original building, which had suffered extensive fire damage, in order to create a new library facility. The project encompassed not only the construction of modern elements but also the careful conservation and repair of the building’s historic fabric. The completed development provides a gross internal floor area of approximately 1,300 square metres, blending contemporary functionality with heritage preservation.

The development of visitor facilities at this well-known National Trust garden. The project comprised a combination of new build and refurbishment works to create a Gift Shop, Pavilion Restaurant, Tea Garden, improved Toilet Facilities, and on-site Car Parking, all designed to enhance the visitor experience while being sensitive to the heritage and landscape setting.

This project involved the successful construction of a four-unit, purpose-built pre-school and day nursery at Pickets Twenty. Selway Joyce provided full Quantity Surveying services, beginning at pre-construction and continuing through to agreement of the Final Account. The scheme was completed both on time and under budget. Our role also included Bank Monitoring services, ensuring financial transparency and control throughout the project's lifecycle.

We were appointed by St John’s, Winchester to provide Contract Administration, Quantity Surveying and Project Management services for the development of new residential dwellings and the refurbishment of existing buildings.

The aim was to deliver modern, accessible accommodation for older residents across multiple storeys, meeting increased demand and improved living standards. Following initial consultations, we gained a clear understanding of the client’s expectations, including the necessary expertise required for the project. We successfully sourced and coordinated a team with the appropriate skills, qualifications and experience.

Our structured approach, supported by our Quality Management System (QMS), ensured smooth delivery of services, maintained cost control and addressed any financial matters promptly. Regular audits and collaborative working methods ensured full compliance with current legislation and performance standards, and the project was completed to the satisfaction of all stakeholders, without disruption or complaint.

Early feasibility work for proposals to convert and conserve the historic Belvedere Tower, located within these nationally significant gardens. The scheme explored a range of options, from preserving the tower as a managed ruin, to a full conversion for use as a Landmark Trust property, ensuring sensitive treatment of the structure while maximising its potential for future use.
